Outdated Features

I had a conversation with one of my agents about a month ago about what we thought would become 'outdated'  home features in the next decade.  She surprised me when she said granite countertops but on the other hand, it does make sense.  Granite counters are less a luxury than a mainstay anymore, what's that saying: familiarity breeds contempt?  Could be.  My kitchen has granite counters; they are black with what looks like gold stenciling throughout - yeah those could be considered 'disco'.

Tiled granite counters were once acceptable, but not anymore, slab granite is king.  Travertine tile is still 'in' but not the 12x12 variety, you'd better have 20x20, at a minimum.

I wonder if builders will ever stop including a front room in their layouts.  Who uses that space?  A formal living room serves what purpose exactly?  Our lives certainly don't require one.  I don't see them EVER being used except as a backdrop to a Christmas tree.  People spend their time in two places, the kitchen and the room off the kitchen, which is why great rooms are so appealing.

Do you think large closets will ever go out of style?
